About Kedah Darul Aman

Welcome to the "Rice Bowl of Malaysia"! Kedah Darul Aman, or the Abode of Peace, is a state of rich historical depth and natural beauty located in the northwest of Peninsular Malaysia. It serves as a vital agricultural region, while also being home to one of Southeast Asia’s most famous island destinations, Langkawi.

👑 History and Heritage

Kedah holds the distinction of being the oldest continuous settlement in Malaysia. Its historical importance is centered around the Bujang Valley (Lembah Bujang), home to remnants of the Old Kedah Kingdom. This ancient kingdom was a major Hindu-Buddhist trading port that flourished between the 3rd and 14th centuries, making Kedah a cornerstone of early regional history.

  • The Royal Seat: The state capital, Alor Setar, is the royal seat, featuring monumental landmarks like the Alor Setar Tower and the Balai Besar (Grand Audience Hall).
  • Cultural Blend: The state’s culture is a rich blend of traditional Malay, Siamese, and early Indian influences due to its history as a major international trading hub along the Strait of Malacca.

🌾 Economy and Geography

Kedah is famously known as the "Rice Bowl of Malaysia" (Jelapang Padi Malaysia) because it is the country's largest producer of rice. This agricultural heritage shapes much of the mainland's landscape.
